Local Government
We’ve gathered our most trusted resources for local government entities and created a list to save you from belaboring through hours of unnecessary searching and reading.
Appalachian Regional Commission
A unique economic development partnership entity, working with both federal and state governments, that provides grants and funding for the reinvigoration of communities within Appalachia (nearly all of Pennsylvania that is west of Lancaster). Areas of funding include community infrastructure, tourism and beautification, workforce development, and non-profit service initiatives.
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
Search both open and (currently) closed funding opportunities available through all of the Commonwealth’s agencies. Don’t forget to let your community FOR-PROFIT businesses know to monitor this website as the Commonwealth does offer programs for them, too.
Southwestern Pennsylvania Municipal Project Hub
The newest one-stop-shop for project management and grant administration. From early project conceptualization to final project completion, and everything in between, the Hub offers assistance to local governments, non-profit organizations, and school districts.
Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Commission
A great resource for assisting your community with transportation projects, environmental justice including pollution control, public water projects, overall economic development, and navigating the intricate world of federal funding options. These are your MASTER level technical experts in the region on federal options.
Rural Development- United States Department of Agriculture
Don’t be fooled, rural doesn’t only imply farmland, chickens, and cows! Rural Development’s programs and funding are focused on small communities with less than 10,000 residents. Grants are available, though very low interest financing options are often the greatest asset of these programs.
Private/Corporate Funders
Many regionally based private and/or corporate funders offer opportunities for local government entities to apply for assistance to aid in various projects. Non-government funding often provides upfront funding (check in hand, not reimbursement) that requires far less reporting than state or federally acquired dollars. One of a few reasons why private funding is our favorite funding at Raven Writing Company!
